What We Do and Who We Are

The mission of A-FAM is to provide a safe space for women in any and all agriculture media to sharpen their professional skills, gain wisdom from each other, learn from other leaders, support one another, and have discussions on the issues we face in our careers, families, and lives. You don’t have to be female to become a member; we encourage you to join to support your female loved ones and colleagues. 

Starting in January 2025, A-FAM members will have access to monthly sessions with experts on these and other issues.

These sessions might include topics such as balancing female-specific healthcare at work, how to handle salary negotiations, and how to handle misogyny in a professional setting. Areas of expertise for Sabrina Halvorson, co-founder of A-FAM, as she’s experienced several decades in her career. Her dedication to addressing these critical topics brings energy to the association. 

You’ll also find sessions on videography, podcasting, and emerging areas of the digital realm, bringing a forward-thinking perspective to A-FAM that equips members to thrive in a rapidly evolving media landscape. Inspired by her experience as a young broadcaster, Corryn La Rue has a passion for helping young women in agricultural communication studies find where they fit into the story of agriculture.

We encourage you to attend the live sessions and be part of the conversations. These sessions are free to members, thanks to the contributions of the founding trustees.  

When you become an A-FAM member, you get access to our Slack channels, with channels for open discussions, upcoming sessions, and content sharing. Starting in January, we will also have a monthly e-newsletter with information on upcoming events, career insights, and news tips.
